Remember this phrase being written on my wall at home when I was a kid growing up. Corny perhaps but also so true.

With matches against Gosforth, Gateshead, and Acklam to be played before we restart the fixture list. We are currently in a breakaway group of four teams as we look to hang onto the tails of City, Boro and Consett. All three of these games will be difficult to get a positive result but we are training hard in a hope to get to xmas still in good spirits.

I feel that whilst we have not won anything except a bit or respect from our opponents. I do feel we are making huge strides as a club. There are many reasons for this but I cant look passed the players sweating it out in pre season as the main reason for improvements. Closely followed by the sacrifices they have made to improve player availability this year.

Yes we have added several new players in to the wider first team squad in Mike Stowe, Alex Westgarth, Lewis Chater, George Davidson, Aedan Moloney, Cillian O'Shaughnessy, Carl Parkinson. However, it is probably the core group of locals that are driving the improvement. When our 2's run out on Saturday 10 out of their 15 starters have represented the first team and 2-3 of their regular early season players will actually be starting for the first fifteen against Gosforth. The majority of this group have been together since the last week of June, smashing into pre season training.

The club is flying at the moment but margins in first xv fixtures are becoming smaller as the weather comes into play and we look to adapt to different tactics to suit these conditions. We have trained well this week in regards to how we are to play against Gosforth.

So we head into the last few weeks prior to xmas with the firsts in a strong position, seconds top of their league, thirds closing in on first place and the fours with a huge selection of players to pick from. However, I feel that it is important to remember we have not won anything and we must continue to do the things that have got us moving forward. Shut our mouths, work hard and enjoy each others company.

Sweat + Sacrifice does indeed = success
