-------

Last year, the Novocastrians RFC and RGS legend, John Elders sadly passed away. In October 2015 at the height of Rugby World Cup fever, the rugby club and ONA played a match to toast the memory of the "Sheriff". The event was such a success, that we are hoping to make it an annual event.

Last year's game saw a rather youthful Old Novos lift the trophy, after a strong 66-19 victory over a slightly more aged Novos side!

With a lack of rugby games over the Christmas period, and to allow for more students to play in the game, we felt a date in between Christmas and New Year would be most suitable. Therefore it was decided that the game will take place on Tuesday 27th December at 14:00 (Bank Holiday). The bar will be open all day and after the rugby we will raise a glass (or six!) to John!

John taught at the school from 1957-82 and again from 1992-96 on a part time basis. John captained Novos from 1959-61 and as Head Coach, in the mid 1970's, helped build the foundations to create a hugely successful era for the rugby club.

An inspiration to many in the North East, the Old Novocastrians Association and Novos RFC decided to team together, to pay our respects to a great man in the only way we knew how - through rugby.

The ONA will play against a Novos 'A' side in honour of John. After the game we'll head upstairs into Sir Arthur Sutherland's Clubhouse to have many a beer, whilst we take in the Xmas festivities!

It's sure to be a great day and one we hope you'll be able to attend (in any capacity!). If you'd like to play please let us know!
We hope you all can make it, as we aim to give John a great send off.

Fortiter Defendit Triumphans!
