Anyone not involved in Thursdays cup match assembled for a friendly with Rockcliff. Despite the absence of captain Ben Melrose, Novos won 31-12.

Squad - Thomas, Whittaker, Cousins, Salt, Pease, Stewart, Nugent, Wilson S, Selkirk, Marshall J, Bass, Kelly, Leonard, Humble, Marshall D, Evans, McGivena, Richards, Longstaff, Wilson Jnr

An eclectic mix of lads ranging from wider first team squad members to regular fourth teams joined together to play a heavy Rockcliff side. The sun was shining and Gareth Bowden had the boys firing from the opening whistle.

Early on the ball was shifted to Lex Leonard who beat about 8 defenders, dodged a foot trip and powered to the line whilst carrying the ball in about three fingers. Conversion added by David Marshall for a 7-0 lead.

We kept the tempo high early on, avoiding the heavy traffic around the ruck. Some great team inter play led to Brendan Thomas crashing over, conversion added by Marshall. Then Stewart Wilson smashed through a few tackles to make it 21-0 when the conversion was again added by Marshall.

It was not all one way traffic as Rockcliff dominated the scrum battle and ended the half on top. The were rewarded with some fine play when Steve Nugent was carded and they then scored a good team try. Half time score 21-5 to Novos.

When we got back to 15 men we piled the pressure back on with early second half try's for Leonard and Hemmings. However, more Rockcliff pressure led to Daniel Whittaker being carded and our opponents scoring a converted try to make the final score 31-12.

A great pre season run out for the lads as we have three sides out next Saturday. Get down to training on Monday and Thursday to make sure your name is in a squad.
