Thurs 23rd August at 1900 Novos kick off their senior cup match at Morpeth as underdogs. Get along to support the lads or get to training !

Recent trends continue tonight as training will continue at the club for any 2/3/4's that wish to train. Been exceptional numbers at training this pre season and despite us taking a squad of 21 to Morpeth I expect there will be 20-25 players still train at the club - four teams, one club !

The first team face a difficult task against opposition from Level 6, the league above us. We will need to keep our width in defence against a side that play a similar shape to us. In addition, the set piece will need to be competitive against a forward pack traditionally bigger than us.

Despite the usual pre season unavailability Novos take a strong side to Morpeth under the new captaincy of Pete Twentyman. Club stalwarts should look out for Paddy Goodings (hooker) Nick Bellamy (wing) and Andy Hall (b/row) who will all be making their debuts in this competition for Novos. In addition, Paddy Sowter (scrum half) has returned from uni to take a place on the bench. It is hoped he will provide much needed competition for the nine spot. Also, this match will see Jonny Ward play against the club he has left last season to come back home to Novos.

Squad -
1. Ollie Dearden
2. Paddy Goodings
3. Josh Stacey
4. Pete Twentyman (Capt)
5. Euan Duncan
6. Chris Ward
7. George Bambrick
8. Sean Ramsay (Co- Vice Capt)
9. Christian Selkirk
10. Greg Humphreyson
11. Shaun Stewart
12. Jez Nash (Vice Capt)
13. Sam Busby
14. Nick Bellamy
15. Jonny Ward
16. Andy Hall
17. Ben Merrett
18. Adam McDonald
19. Alex Littlefair
20. Paddy Sowter
21. James Bass

Some real depth shown given the likes of Tom Dias, Luke Menzfeld, Jamie Wallace, Billy Porter, Fraser Green, Mark Stewart, Ben Wollerton, Ben Walker, Kit Sorenson, Iain Dodds, Stephen Hughes-Narborough, Rich Harrison and Ben Kelly are all regular first teamers not selected for various reasons. Not to mention the new lads in Chris Law, Henry Wilson and Alex Tait who will be available from September onwards.

The squad is hopeful to be competitive across the park as they build into the league season opener at West Hartlepool. A victory over our opponents would go down as one of the biggest upsets in recent cup history.

The week finishes on Saturday with the players meeting at 1200 for a tidy up of the club to get it ready for the weeks ahead. Then we will be training at 1300 before the first team lads cook the 2/3/4's a bbq at approx 1500. So get down to either help clean, train, eat, drink or all of the above !

Up the Vos !
