Saturday sees Novos take on West Leeds in the RFU Intermediate Cup and the 6 Nations begins!

Novos play host to West Leeds in the RFU Intermediate Cup on Saturday, in what is sure to be a great day at Sutherland Park. Novos unfortunately lost the league and cup double header to Gateshead, thus almost gifting West Leeds an easy route to the knock out stages. That is unless Novos can beat West Leeds by more than 28 points to top the table! West Leeds currently sit in 2nd place in Yorkshire 1 and are sure to be very tough opposition. The Yorkshire side actually won at Twickenham last season in the RFU Vase (the Level 8 competition) to complete an unbeaten season; also wining Yorkshire 2 and the Yorkshire Shield.

Novos will be looking to cause an upset; just like the 1st XV managed back in 2004 en route to the Powergen Junior Vase last 16. Novos won away to Hoylake, who had lost just one game all season. Infamously, Novos set off to travel to Hoylake, but after a road accident the club had to turn back and were back in Newcastle two hours after setting off and had to start again!

The squad of 21 hoping for victory and a route to Twickenham is:
Goodman, Dias, Steinberg, Igoe, Stewart, Rowntree, Bambrick, Dodds; Dixon, Humphreyson, Groombridge, Kelly, Busby, R. Duncan, Bass. Subs. Twentyman, Foster, O’Donoghue, Forbes, Menzfeld.

The fun doesn’t stop there. The 6 Nations kicks off on Saturday with Scotland v Ireland at 14:25 and England vs France at 16:50. The clubhouse will of course be open, food and drink available all afternoon.
