Everything you need to know for our tour to Whitby on 1st and 2nd April...

We are staying at the YHA Whitby, YO22 4JT. That is the full address! It's on the top of the hill overlooking the town right next to the Abbey, so is well signposted.

There is very limited parking at the YHA itself, but there is a car park a couple of minutes walk down the road that is £6.50 for 24 hours (mobile or coin payment).

Check in is officially from 3pm, however you are welcome to arrive anytime you like. If you're thinking of arriving early and enjoying Whitby itself, please bear in mind it's 199 steps from the town up to the YHA!

Our afternoon activities begin at 2:30pm on Saturday 1st April. Please meet in the Chomley Room in full fancy dress (Hawaiian theme).

The children will be taken care of from 3pm to 5pm doing some beach activities and then viking boat building, being run by YHA staff. ALL children (including brothers and sisters) can join in, and if you want to head down to the beach with them you are more than welcome (in fact a couple of volunteers will be needed).

Whilst the children are busy, grown ups are invited to take over (literally) The Whitby Brewery, just across the road from the YHA. Its a tiny independent microbrewery with seating for 5 people, so they're turning most of the brewery floor itself over to us as well!

Dinner will be around 6pm in the YHA. It's likely to be a set menu, but if there are any particular dietary requirements, please let me know asap.

After dinner we will begin our evening entertainment back in the Chomley Room.

As part of the evening entertainment, we are pleased to welcome back 'Ninjas got Talent' for another outing. For those who missed it first time, I think you can guess the format - a good old fashioned talent show! Every family needs to be represented and there will be prizes for the best act, and a forfeit for anyone not taking part. Tony and David can testify that we do carry out the forfeits! If you need any special equipment, please bring it yourself.

On Sunday morning, after breakfast, we drive back up the coast to Redcar for a 11:00 kick off against Redcar RFC and possibly Middlesbrough RFC. Then it's hotdogs and home.

A few other things to remember:

  • Bedding is provided in the YHA but towels are not so bring your own.
  • The YHA is licensed, so if you're planning to bring any of your own drink for the evening, please be subtle.
  • Rooms have been carefully allocated and you'll be given the correct room on arrival!
  • Dinner, bed and breakfast is included, as are the children's daytime activities. Sitting in the brewery is also free, but drinking there isn't!

And that's it - dust off your flip flops, practice your hula dancing and we'll see you in Whitby!

Go Ninjas!
