Over 55 players graced Sutherland Park in readiness for our first pre season game on Saturday. The score was irrelevant, what matters is this showed how great a state our club is in !

Firstly, some thank you messages. Cheers to Jack and Peet for coming down to ref and introducing us to the new scrum sequence. Thank you to Nic for coming down and being physio on what is a training night and finally cheers to Lucy for opening the bar !!

It was great to see so many players on display last night. Including, some new players to the club, who looked very handy indeed. With a strict amateur club like ours it is fantastic that we keep getting so many players land in our lap ! So many new players and we are yet to have the uni hoardes arrive !!

The match itself was very competitive with some great passages of play and some fine scores.

On a night that we shone as a club, some individuals were excellent. Up front, Twentyman was solid, Graham was involved with ball in hand but Reidy seemed to be every where ! There was some fine play by the new lads to - Spoor, Dannatt and some youth players strutting there stuff.

In the backs, there was plenty of talent on display. The scrumhalf battle was excellent with McDermott, Maxwell and Scullion all having an impact. Midfield was well contested with Neil, Stewart, Mitchell fighting to not be overshadowed by the new lads - Collum, Collins-Thomas, Baker. Out wide, Novos showed how we have pace in abundance. Staking a claim were last years first team squad members Bradford, McCrory, Bass and the high scoring Ward J. These players were pushed all the way by new boys - Binmore, Nash with many other backs not available on the night !

No major injuries on the night and we head into Saturdays friendly at Northern in a strong position. Whilst there is a big gap in league positions between ourselves and our opposition, we will try and show there is no gap in heart and effort. If we want to improve as a club we have to set our sights on playing Northern in league rugby in the next three to five years.

Some big training sessions ahead lads so lets keep improving and enjoying our rugby.

Finally, thanks to Tane and Nipper for coaching and controlling such a large number of players.
