50 unanswered points in the second half allowed Novos to move five points clear of the relegation zone.
A large ground were in attendance at Sutherland Park as the club held a luncheon and dished out "100 club" ties to a host of current and former players. Great scenes and just the kind of support we needed to spur us on for this huge match between two sides at the wrong end of the table.
The lads played with some high tempo rugby in the first half and were rewarded tries through Nick Arbuckle and Tom Dias, conversion added by Greg Humphreyson. Incredibly the second half ended 12-0 as we blew about 20-30 points by inaccurate passing, dropping ball and being a bit greedy at times. Novos 12, Ryton 0 after 40 mins.
Decent half time chat in separate units as we spoke about tempo, set piece dominance and letting the ball do the work in the second half. Ryton had been competitive in the first half but we knew the game was about to open up.
In the second half we scored 50 unanswered points as we moved the ball at every opportunity. Tries were scored by Sam Busby (2), Carl Parkinson, Greg Humphreyson, Josh Igoe, Lewis Chater and Bruno Smith (2). Our kickers whacked over two conversions from Humphresyon and three from Jonno Wilkes for a final score of 62-0.
Thanks go to Craig Wrightson for taking charge of the match. The scrum battle was dominated by our pack and Craig did well to get the game flowing by not penalising every scrum. A good performance by Craig.
Cheers to the Ryton boys. A difficult rugby season for you but there are not many players in rugby that have not been in your boots. We hope that you use the remaining games and they start of pre season to prepare to bounce straight back up into D and N 1.
