New Year Success!

It may have been heavy underfoot but a beautiful winters day saw Novos start brightly. The first half saw a point a minute rugby from a Novos side with aspirations of pushing Redcar and Seaton Carew for the last promotion spot.

Within 2 mins of the start of the match a smart switch in the flow of play saw a 5 v 2 overlap converted by Jonathon Smith in the corner. The bonus point win was secured within 25 mins thru tries by Luke Mitchell, Rich Harrison and Dan Bollado.

After further scores by Bollado and Jamie Wallace we reached half time 39-0 up.

The second half was a much tighter affair as Winlaton showed some resolve and we lost some discipline. At times this season we have been too competitive at the tackle situation and continued to be penalised in this game.

Second half tries went James Bass, Alex Littlefair and Ben Walker. Winlaton were able to take something from the game with a try of their own. Final score 56-5.

Winlatons 10 was asked to apologise to the ball after the match as he kicked it to death during it. They looked dangerous at times and we were perhaps lucky that they did not run it more often.

Thanks go to the ref who was in charge of an incident free game, packed with some great tries.

We could have won the game by more if we had our kicking boots on. It was a surprise to find that we kicked 3 out of 10 conversions as every one thought we hadnt even done that well ! Upon Bollado missing a kick he looked to his coach for advice but found none - "kick it between the two big white things" was all he was told.

This week we have Wallsend away and have several players back in contention for places. There is never an easy game at Wallsend and we will need to have learnt from Hartlepool and Prudhoe if we are to come away with a win.

Attitude is everything, let's continue the promise we showed and make 2013 our year.
