Novos went into the match with just one change from the selected side as Jez Nash was injured in training on Thursday night.
After a repeat of scenes from Eng vs Wales, Novos refused to take the field as confusion surrounded kick off time. Nothing to do with mind games just the simple fact that we were all still have naked when the ref knocked ! So we kicked off at the new time of 1405. Any arriving Novos support did not miss much as a yellow card to Rich Harrison after two mins prevented the fast start Novos were searching for. Whilst down to 14 men, Morpeth ran in two tries via their young back row player who looks like he receives great coaching at what ever school he is currently at !
Novos were looking some what flat in the early exchanges as we fell off tackles and coughed up possession a fair bit. During the first period Morpeth were able to score two more tries for a 24-0 lead at half time.
After a chat about which way we wanted this fixture to go we gathered some momentum and started getting into our attacking shape. This made the second half much more competitive although Morpeth did score from one of our scrums to push it to 31-0. However, we responded again as we tried to pick the tempo of our play up. From a quick tap by Rich Dixon, Alex Littlefair side stepped his way to the line for our first score. Morpeth 31-5 up.
Morpeth are riding high in our league and showed good attacking width to score again and then added another with an intercept. Final score 43-5 but a much more competitive 19-5 score line during the second half.
Thank you to the young exchange ref from Manchester. I though he was very consistent at the breakdown and was confident in his decision making.
Novos lads, Consett away this week as we seek to stop the rot. It has been a tough few weeks for us after loses to Guisborough and Morpeth. In addition, we lost to Medicals and Blyth in which we were the better side in both games. So lets get down to training and keep chipping away at it. The tide will eventually turn !
