This weekend the super 2s take on Medicals for the first time since 2015 in Northumberland No2 Plate semi final. Novos will be looking to reach the plate final for the third season in a row and aiming to win the competition for the first time. The cup brings a welcome distraction from a tough league campaign and what could be bigger than a local derby “the battle of the roundabout “.

Preparations have been hampered this week due to four players moving up to the ones on Thursday night but a strong 19 man squad is named.

An experienced front row of Gus Graham, Tom Dias and Brendan Thomas who bring plenty of ball carry and the odd bit of flare. Ian Pratt leads the team from second row along side the dynamic Alex Horne. The flankers are an interesting pairing of hard working young players Augustus Nye and Alex Cokeley. The pack is made up by “I can play every position” Zach Weatherhead slotting in a 8. The pack is full of strong ball carriers hoping to set the platform for the rapid backline.

Padddy Sowter and Jonny Winterhalder look to control things and dictate the pace of the game at 9. & 10. The impressive James Chadwick and Isaac Robinson(hopefully he turns up) are this weeks centres. Out wide new boy Elliot Smith making his debut looked impressive at training on Thursday and Dan Stalmeisters provide plenty of gas. Sam Bird plays in the unfamiliar position of fullback but will look to join the line as often as he can.

A versatile bench is Tom Harwood, Ben Silk, Bradley Pantry and the second best Marshall John.
