Novos travelled down to Acklam, disjointed and with several cry offs again disrupting things, They arrived late and with draughting in some new players were always going to struggle to be a cohesive unit.
Acklam it turned out were a useful forward orientated side, reasonably well drilled and certainly a cohesive unit but one that on a better day Novos could have competed with more comfortably.
Novos scored 4 tries and looked dangerous wide when they were allowed to play.
Novos were consistently not allowed to compete for the ball at the tackle area and a series of bizarre decisions, particularly around the scrummage which was hard but fairly contested led to frustration among the players (from both sides). Novos also found themselves penalised for attempting to stop one of their players being punched repeatedly. Even the Acklam hooker after the game apologised and recognised the game descended into a farce and that had a game of rugby taken place it would have been a good contest between two contrasting styles. As it was neither side can say they enjoyed their afternoon - At least Acklam can say they won whatever game it was we were playing!
