Here's me match report...was canny tired so hope you love it. Cheers Tom Wilson for your notes that I didn't use because I thought my thoughts were more important so I hope everyone doesn't mind that this report is just mainly about me.
Much love
So the mighty return of Tom Burford too the gorgeous 3s definitely hit the headlines this week. We where off to Ponteland to improve on a rusty performance last week. There was some thrills spills and some absolute corkers.
Our referee today was from a primary school-but to be honest was alright.
The rain was heavy and the grass was wet. Game plan was too stick it up the jumper and keep it tight. That's the true Novos way.
Right from the kick off the Novos pack was on the front foot with some fantastic work in the loose.i was just watching in awe as we turned over our first scrum...oh that was after I kicked the ball almost backwards...Conor peniston-bird also couldn't receive my deliberate cross kick to knock it on. I also chased a kick over the top from Greg/Andy goodes son, and almost nailed their winger but he had good feet.
Oh did I also mention I turned the ball over in a ruck...their number 8 got tackled, I was straight over the ball and as I was cleaned out I took the ball with me,like a proper pro.
I also knocked it on once from a tricky low grubber...it was cool though as our pack turned the ball over again. Then Justin went off after deciding to chase this quick mad winger, apparently he hurt his ankle,so I had to quickly do my hair and fill in at 9-Danny care style.
That's when the ball was getting a bit awkward and not going to gregs/Andy goodes sons hands very well. We kept pressing though, two breakaway away tries by them was all they could manage. We then got a penalty from the primary school kid (referee) and Greg/andy goodes son kicked it over with ease. We also got so close to crossing the whitewash right on half time with Tommo nearly hammering through.the school kid ref said he was holding on and the whistle went.
I think it was 17-3 at half time. We were all smelling the fear coming from Ponteland as in all seriousness they were a lot younger and fitter than us but at the breakdown and set piece time we were killing them. Oh and in the first half dan hipps did loads like me, probs made more tackles. Oh and Neil went off after two mins cos he lost a finger nail(which saw the rerun of the leader, who turned up to watch with his kit, after his cricket game was rained off and he had secured anther league victory).but most importantly I was still playing. Oh and the backs did like 1 or 2 moves each time seeing mark Hemings getting smashed, which was quite frankly-hilarious!
Then the bairn blew his whistle and the second half was underway...one moment to remember was jack salt chasing a guy with his teeth out and arms waving when he told jack they liked his lass. Dan hipps also went for a catch in the air but instead went head first straight into this tall guy.they both thought it was Xmas so had to go off...the lump on hipps' head was massive!
He came off at someone came on...was probs young Dom Byrne who had a good game in the first half until he screamed in a scrum and came off!Andy Gardiner also was on the pitch for a bit.it took him about 6 hours to get from Edinburgh to Ponteland...some say he was trying to avoid kick off. It was alright though as we had kris tengleson probs the biggest man I will ever have sleep in my bed-oioi!!
Back to the rugby....
We where still dominating the breakdown and set pieces and where getting ever closer to that line with again some predictable hammers/Ireland's/me picking it up and pooing my boxer shorts.only to be again penalised for doing something in a ruck.
Then out of no where I passed the ball to Greg/Andy goodes son and he passed it too nick 'the posh one' then to Hemmings 'the ginger one who dances in pop world with no top on all the time' who ran a lovely line and scored under the posts.
Tommo was subject to some foul play...getting wiped out in a maul by this kid who was canny big off the ball-should have been binned, instead got a talking too by the school boy....ouch!
Then we all got a bit tired and Ponteland showed they were canny fit like...scoring again through some good pace out wide.
I then went off as Justin felt better bless him.thats when I came off and had a drink...it was lovely and toilet like-refreshing. I was shortly followed by Andy gardiner as he said he couldn't see...some dude out a thumb in his eye-nasty guy like.
Kris tengleson made a beasty run and instead of running into space he ran straight into the last defender who made a brave tackle...looked sore!
Again Ponteland scored a couple of tries but the final score did not reflect the effort me and my team put in!
Final score- think the score was 27-10 ???!
The pack deserve a medal after their performance!
Novos Development side are certainly up against it this year with a great challenge on our hands.personally I loved the game and it will really improve all of us as players.we have Set ourselves up for a great match next week against blyth. Even though I wasn't on point it was my first game back as was pleased with my contribution.
