The Great Peoples Republic Of Kim Jong Pratt – Vs – Ponteland Third Team (Kind of)

The Great Peoples Republic Of Kim Jong Pratt – Vs – Ponteland Third Team (Kind of)
As the stature of our great team commands this match was the main event at Sutherland Park on the weekend of 8th October 2016.
We had a strong squad and most of us turned up on time to get changed in the big boy’s room before taking to the field of dreams to begin the warm up, expertly taken by Zach Weatherhead. I stretched muscles I had not used in a very long time thanks to his Physio knowledge.
Ponteland could be seen running through their moves and didn’t look to sharp, but appearances can be deceiving.
A rousing speech from the great man himself before we began had us in good spirits prior to the kick off with us all feeling ready for combat.
Ponteland kicked to us and Jack Salt took the ball into contact, then came straight off the pitch with a poorly ankle. Poor lad.
A few phases later and we were in their 22 looking to score which we did through Sam Bird (I think), conversion was missed by Nick Lithgow.
We on the bench thought this would be the start of the predicted avalanche of tries, but Ponteland had other ideas and came straight back at us to score and take the lead with a converted try.
There were some silly penalties being given away by our defenders and Tommy Wilson Jnr seemed to be getting pinged a lot, even if he did protest his innocence. He subbed himself off before he was carded by the ref.
The first half was a tempestuous affair which saw a lot of our bench being used due to head injuries and such and of course the obligatory high tackle from our glorious leader, which I don’t think was as high as it could have been.
After all of our penalty give a ways Ponteland were allowed to have far too much possession and to be fair to them were playing at a good level compared to what was expected from their three’s. Colm decided he needed a rest and got himself a yellow card just before half time.
Some more scores in the first half for both teams saw us go into the break 2 points down.
Sorry but I have forgotten who scored and in what order so if you did score, well done.
The second half saw the match descend into a bit of a violent affair, one of their players decided to drop kick Colm whom had just returned to the affray but the ref decdied it was ok and we only got a penalty.
Then someone high tackled our resident bully Gus Graham, which I know is easy as he is short, but they did nearly take his head off. This led to a mass brawl which Colm decided to initiate I believe, with Nick Walker being on the receiving end of some very weak looking rabbit punches. The ref eventually regained a modicum of control and called the captains together with Novo’s and Ponteland expecting the Ponteland player to be sent off. He was carded but so was Colm and his second yellow was then turned into a red.
Following this I came onto the pitch caught the ball from a high kick, handed off the fly half then got tackled and kneed in the face, set up the ball nicely for us to score and go back into the lead. I then left the field of play safe in the knowledge I had saved the day and we would go on to win in the end.
A couple more scores from us and them and the game came to a close with us winning 55 – 43 or something like that.
Well done us.
Thanks Rob.
