Novos Development fight hard in narrow defeat
Following a good win at Northern a confident took on an experienced Blaydon Bricks on a cold December day at Sutherland Park.
Novos were put under pressure from the off when they failed to take the kick off cleanly but for 10 minutes the Novos defence held firm. Novos skipper Ian Pratt went off with a hand injury after 10minutes which will keep him out well into the new year, big Damien Foggen came on to replace him with James Desmond taking over the captaincy.
Novos continued to be put under pressure and finally went behind to a penalty kick after some petulance from Chris Curson gave away a penalty and resulted in Curson spending 10 minutes in the sin bin.
During the rest of the half the Novos defence held firm despite the numerical disadvantage.
In the second half Novos started much brighter and started to put Blaydon under pressure when Curson returned to the action Dave Sears and Dom Watkins went off to be replaced by James Shallcross and Alex Twinn.
Novos went further behind when Tommy Wilson was sin binned for the first time in his 100 year career from the scrum Bladdon powered over the line.
Curson was replaced by Adam Longstaff which meant a rejigging of the backline with Alex Twinn going to 10.
Novos again came close to scoring after good runs by Longstaff and a 40 meter break from Dave Henry which was stopped by a last ditch tackle.
Steve Thompson replaced will Moses in the last 10minutes and Chris Brown replaced the injured Will Pilkington.
Novos fought hard but couldn’t get the try to bring them back in the game and Blaydon held out for an 8-0 win.
Man of the Match could have been given to any of the forwards but Steve Gittins just edged out the rest.
Next week Novos Development team are home to Morpeth in a friendly.
