It was a frustrating day at home for Novos this week, as they played Camp Hill for the first time this season. Aiming to build on their performance from last week, and take advantage of the long bus journey Camp Hill had endured, Novos were looking for a strong start. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to go right for Novos, and it wasn’t long before they were behind their own posts as the visitors went over for their first try. There was no lack of endeavour, but the determination and aggressiveness in defence shown last week was just not present this week. Camp Hill had 3 more tries on the board before Novos eventually managed to create some space for Rachael Fleming, playing on the wing this week, to squeeze over in the corner.
Trying to start afresh for the 2nd half, Novos battled hard, but failed to protect the ball properly in contact and were turned over time and time again. Any half breaks were snuffed out by good cover tackling or the pass being spilt, and Novos were just unable to keep hold of the ball for a sustained period to pressure the Camp Hill line.
In contrast, Camp Hill made the most of any possession they had, scoring 4 unanswered tries in the 2nd half, to leave the final score 5-52.
Novos know they are capable of playing much better than this, and need to regroup and focus to work hard in training this week. Next Sunday they welcome Carlisle to Sutherland Park and will be looking for a much improved performance.
