Novos continued their Jekyll and Hyde season with an excellent 1st half and a poor second half handed the league leaders a big win

Novos welcomed Waterloo to Sutherland Park, knowing they would have to be at the top of their game to compete with the league leaders. They started strongly with debutant winger Jess Garrick collecting a loose ball from kick off and making good ground into the Waterloo half. Novos kept the pressure on, marshalling the defence well and managing to contain any Waterloo attack. After a fairly even opening quarter, Waterloo managed to break the deadlock, scoring a converted try. Undeterred, Novos started to build the phases again, and another run from Jess Garrick made ground, offloading to centre Janette Shaw who ran in to score. Waterloo came back strongly, and Novos were working hard in defence, but eventually ran out of defenders, and Waterloo were in for another score, making the half time score 5-14.
Novos were aiming for more of the same in the 2nd half, but it was Waterloo who seemed to step up a gear. A couple of half time substitutions added some real pace to their team, and Novos started to tire, with first up tackles not as effective as they had been in the 1st half. With Novos struggling to keep defending at the pace the game was being played at, they were caught out several times, and Waterloo started to run in tries at ease. The final whistle came as a relief and the final score was 5-62. A disappointing scoreline, considering the first half, and plenty to work on before next week’s trip to Camp Hill.
