Saturday sees our 2's travel to Seghill to play Medicals in the Northumberland County 2's Challenge Cup at 1500.

With the 3's cup locked away the 2's now have their day in the limelight as the squad will assemble at 1250 for their formal photo. After which they will head to Seghill, a neutral ground to take on a flying Medicals side.

A great final is expected after the league fixtures were shared with each side beating the other on their home patch. So one side is taking the season 2-1 and heading back to their bar with the Challenge Cup.

Novos have earned the right after wins over Alnwick 45-31, Morpeth 42-22 and finally a 45-19 win over Tynedale. The 2's are a very young squad with 17 local lads who have all played first team rugby at some stage. We are incredibly grateful to Medicals who have okayed our 4 cup tied lads. Great to see the two clubs working together and thanks must go to our fixture secretary, Jack Pellew for all the cup admin of late.

Congrats to the players selected but similar to last week we are a big club so a huge shout out to the likes of Greg Abibu, Josh Farley, Andre Agwu, Ethan Morton, Ian Wood, Christian Selkirk, Rich Zabrocki, Jack Ribton, Josh Martin, Rhys Gibbons and Phil Howard-Johnston, Charlie Muse, Alex Watson and many others who I can't remember off the top of my head - who have all played in early cup rounds but have not been selected for this final for various reasons.

2's squad to play Medicals at Seghill, meet 1250 at Novos in formal attire for a 1300 photo. Then travel to play Medicals with a 1500 kick off.

Zac Weatherhead, Ben Rodgers, David Medjigbodo-Lawson, Dylan Mills, Theo Mouille, Ollie Forster, Simeon Archibald, Darren Kelly, Jack Povey, Barney Youlden, Luke Masters, Shaun Stewart, Isaac Robinson, Greg Wills, Zinzan Fraser, Ant McQuillan, Alex Cokeley, Zac Smith, Chris Ward, Joe Kapur and Michael Lehmann.

Same front row as last week who were outstanding round the park and maintained a 100% scrum success rate. Theo Mouille and Dylan Mills are in the engine room and Theo was outstanding last week - claiming kick offs and securing possession by hitting ruck after ruck. Dylan must get a special mention for excelling in recent weeks and is one of the few to play in all three cup rounds leading into the final.

Incredibly, there is only one change in the pack from last weeks game as Dame Allan's student Ollie Forster comes back in after missing last weeks win after sustaining a cut too the head vs Morpeth. Ollie has been outstanding in his first few games of adult rugby, winning the ball at the breakdown and thriving whilst carrying the ball. The pack is completed with two great back rowers in Northumberland U20's player, Simeon Archibald and experienced first teamer Darren Kelly. Simeon has been outstanding in the loose and has won a lot of turnovers at lineout time. Darren has returned to rugby after work commitments have prevented him from playing this season. He made an outstanding return last week against Tynedale - making cover tackles, carrying hard and even finished the game at flyhalf. Loving life !

Our back line looks stronger than last week with the return of Barney Youlden and Shaun Stewart to the group. The pair were influential against Morpeth two weeks ago but missed Saturday's win over Tynedale. Some real game management experience in that 10 and 12 pairing with Jack Povey at 9. Jack joined us this season from Medicals and has loved the environment at the club. He will be desperate to get the win against his former side.

The inside backs are formidable and we can include Isaac Robinson in that statement. Isaac has been outstanding the last two cup matches. Making numerous line breaks and some crunching tackles.

In the wider channels we will see last weeks hat-trick hero Luke Masters tearing down the wing. Luke joined us this season from Prudhoe & Stocksfield - he has had a great season with a number of tries bringing the reward of several appearances for the first team. On the other wing will be Greg Wills - a well balanced set of wingers as Greg brings power, ability to offload and strong defence. They will be marshalled by Zinzan Fraser - a youthful talent who made a lot of line breaks last week and will want to showcase his skills as he continues to push for an U20 county place.

The bomb squad on the bench include Ant McQuillan fish from the 3's cup win last week, Alex Cokeley and Zac Smith who will come on a hit things and carry hard. The final forward is Chris Ward who will hope to play a big part in the lineout. A 4-2 split means Joe Kapur and Michael Lehmann round out the squad. Joe has a strong 60 mins at flyhalf last week getting a couple of assists. Michael has first team experience and capable of some wow moments when attacking.

What an incredible group of lads who will want to play better as a team this week. At times we were a bit clunky last week with some great individual moments but some rustiness in our unit play. All things we can sort at training on Thursday.

One last weekend of fifteen a side rugby before we head into a huge list of 7's events. What a season we are having !

Up the Vos !
