A top 6 finish in the international tournament.

Rugby hater
- Consett Men

Novos Ladies recently headed off to uncharted tour territory - Flanders Open Rugby! A 10s festival set in the beer rich (but cider lacking) Belgium.

Sneaky weasels and saloon girl outfits packed we went to embrace the festivities and play a little bit of rugby. What followed was a bloody good rugby performance!

Heading out on the Saturday with 3 games to play, fresh after the 8am tannoy wake up, we took on HRC Xtreme. Clad in camouflage, warming up like mad and rocking the highest ponytails in western Europe they looked like a tough team to beat. Novos however brought in some big hits and fast paced rugby to show Flanders what they are all about. the final score came out with Novos on top at 35-5.

With a small break to refuel with beer we took on Pandas. In what proved to be our worst performance all weekend we came out with a draw of 10-10

After a fantastic euro pop inspired dance warm up we had our last match of the day, RUS. Having suddenly remembered how to play rugby we emulated our earlier performance and brought home a 30-10 win.

A slight error on our part the first day performance put us to quite a good pool with a very early start time. Hitting the main pitch at 9.25am, the legs feeling last nights dancing and teapot antics, we kicked off against Dalton Bitches! Much to the surprise of the team (mostly Struth!) we put the first points on the board. Holding them off for the whole first half the game the scoreboard at full time read 40-10

Next up was Aylesford Bulls. After a teapot based altercation with the opposition we were ready to smash it up on the pitch. Armed with 3 teams worth of supporters we fought really hard, coming out on top at the end of the first half. Despite the cries of Nichol being a "rugby hater" every time she kicked the ball, the game was tightly fought and entertaining.
Unfortunately due to the referees late night on the booze some poor decision making ended the game 5-15 and Novos were out.

The final standing saw us come 6th our of 24 teams.

A stellar perfomance (on and off the pitch) by all.

See you next year Flanders!
