Please read! A short message from Mike Shoesmith...

Novos are different. The rest of us have always thought they are different, they know they are different and they know that we think they are different.
- Alan Hedley, Journal Correspondent

Dear Novo

This message is short and simple.

Novocastrians needs your help to build a better database.

With this information, the club can be reunited with old friends and old friends can be reunited with the club, a partnership that will hopefully bring benefits all round.

To this end, I am helping the club’s communications officer, Chris Ward (Graham’s son, but don’t hold that against him!) to collect a comprehensive and accurate list of people connected with Novos. I can’t do this without your help.

Please examine your contacts and share with us the email addresses and mobile numbers of anyone you know who has played for or supported Novos over the years. This may sound like the sort of request that can go on the back burner or be left to the next man or woman - but this is a team effort. May I urge you to deal with this request promptly. To help you with this task I have attached a spreadsheet produced by Chris, based on team sheets kept by Jim Lewin between 1976 and 1989!

Your support will make a big difference to a club that although forward thinking is still hungry to re-acquaint itself with a rich seam of talented and colourful characters from the past.

On behalf of Novos may I also invite you to Sutherland Park on Friday October 2nd 2015 at 18:00. The club is hosting a match to celebrate the life of the late John Elders (Novos Captain, RGS Master and England Head Coach) who died earlier this year. Novos Veterans, the 7C's! will take on the Old Novocastrians Association. Bring your boots along if you fancy a run out on the hallowed turf, or just fill your boots on the balconies! After the game there will be plenty of time to catch up with old friends and team members on the eve of Rugby World Cup 2015 in Newcastle.

Let me leave you with the words of Alan Hedley, the Journal’s former rugby correspondent in his forward to our clubhouse extension appeal brochure in 1989.

"Novos are different. The rest of us have always thought they are different, they know they are different and they know that we think they are different."

Now it’s your chance to ensure this tradition continues.

Kind regards

Mike Shoesmith
