Where to start on this one? The scoring was non-stop from minute 1 to minute 80 with pretty much every player in the team contributing to one score at some point during the day.
Player coach Michael Searle kicked off the scoring for the day after Harry Tankard stripped the ball from his opposite man in contact. His offload found Farley, who put a hopeful chip over the top which landed the way of the chasing Searle to wrestle over for the opening score.
The next one was a trademark Novocastrians score, a quick tap in the midfield from a penalty had Max Cook steaming onto the ball and breaking the line, his pass found Sam Busby on the inside who was able to almost walk it in under the sticks. Searle found his second score not long later. A solid scrum against a bigger Dalrington pack held firm under pressure 5 meters out from the line and after some relentless pressure Searle powered over the line to make things a comfortable affair, converting his own try in the process.
The bonus point score came from a definite Man Of The Match contender in newly debuted George Jowitt after bustling over from short range beating a couple defenders in the process. A great ball carrying back rower who came on early in the first half from the bench to replace the injured Fin Ruddock, making a showstopping tackle after coming onto the pitch.
Outside Centre Harry Tankard got our first try of the second half after disrupting the ball from Darlington's scrum, he hacked through and followed up his own kick to dot down underneath the posts and pretty much secure us the game. Searle seemed desperate to avoid buying a Jug on Saturday, after making yet another line-break 20 meters out he selflessly offloaded for the supporting captain George Bambrick to score.
Our final two scores could already be up for potential try of the season contenders. The first came from some brilliant interplay from the big lads inside the 22 before releasing fly-half Josh Farley to put in a perfectly weighting dink across field for Max Cook to score a well deserved try finishing well in the corner. And after 10 or so minutes of some incredible own half defence to deny our opponents a score, our big second rower in Darren Kelly picked off the scrum half's pass to eventually release youngster Sam Cleife on the left hand side to round off the day.
Final Score Novos 58 - 0 Darlington
So, all in all an exceptional performance against a team that were 2 wins from 2 coming into this fixture but the most impressive part of the day without a doubt was keeping a side with some real attacking potential at the pitch that is becoming a real fortress in Sutherland Park.
However the real challenge lies with next week's game. A 1st vs 2nd place clash in the table will happen as we make the trip down to Sunderland to take on the only other team that has won 3 from 3 so far this season. Sunderland was a place we struggled at this time last year, however with new players, new ideas and a new mindset we head into the game full of confidence and excitement ready to take the game to our opponents next week.
Training resumes this Tuesday and Thursday at the club! Up The Vos!
