The 2nd prez sez from our very own Angus Forbes Walker, club president

Hello and Welcome to another Prez Sez section,

First of all, it was good to get some rugby played after the long lay off…. Albeit not a successful weekend for our mens teams in terms of results, our primary aim is to get people playing rugby and happily we got three good games played. Please keep up the hard work in training, support each other and the coaches. We can turn the corner in terms of our results as a club.

The 1st team tends to be where our success as a club is judged and I'm particularly delighted that we have put ourselves in a position where our future in the division lies within our own hands. The 1st team put up a spirited and determined show against a big and pacy side at Horden over the weekend, - hugely encouraging for the rest of the season. I know that the senior squad have worked very hard during the lay off, and if we carry on this support of each other and of the coaching team, I know that we will be competing in this division next season. Our junior sides are also starting to become stronger, with our Colts narrowly missing out on promotion in their league and becoming regular fixtures in our development team (3rds). There is genuine hope the 4th team Centurians can get out on the park again soon, we are very close to being able to field 4 sides each weekend! Add to that our marvellous ladies team who are currently romping away with their league and are currently undefeated, whilst playing some very entetaining Rugby - these are exciting times on the playing front!

This Saturday (30th Jan) should see the first 1st XV home game for some time, with Consett as the opposition. As with every game this season its an important game for the Club, especially as Consett occupy the space just below us in the league - a win would prove a huge boost in terms of surviving relegation. It would be great if we could have a good backing for the guys, Please make every effort you can to get up and support the team - I know it will make a difference… after all the first team success is a success for the whole club, everyone plays some part including our supporters.

From the Exec..

Burns night this Saturday, It would be great if you could attend, have a few beers and a crack with the lads and lasses whilst sampling some fine Scottish cuisine. This is just the latest in a long line of social events - keep an eye on the website and posters in the club for more information.

You will have noticed the new furniture in the lounge. Comfy sofa's and lots of chairs, its a long way from the peeling wallpaper, damp stains on the ceiling and smell of stale beer in the carpet from my playing days, The old place looks good at the minute and will look even better when more furniture is delivered and Lawrence Llewellyn has done his bit on it . On that note the Club is available for functions should you wish to use it. See any one from the Exec or Malcom for further details.

Further recent developments include discussion on what we can do as a Club to promote the Womens Rugby World Cup later on this year. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that some of our girls past and present may be involved in that tournament, ex novos Katie Mclean and Sarah Hunter are well established internationals now, Our Skipper Janette Shaw is Englands team manager, no less and Emily Braund has gained international recognition and an outsider bet to be involved - we will be showing matches, organizing taster sessions and much more. More detail to follow as we finalise plans.

So as you can see, quite a lot going on and lots to do - Messrs Wilson and Cotterill will be looking to galvanise some volunteers to help with things so please make yourself available.

See youSaturday!
