Going to be great to get the season underway at an ever changing Sutherland Park - new players, changes in the bar, ongoing work done on the changing area. What will remain constant is running rugby, running beer taps and a thriving social scene.

As with every pre season there are holidays going on, young fellas working or visiting festival season but we have two strong sides out.

The 1st xv game sees George Bambrick lead the boys against opposition from the league above us. In fact, we have chosen to play all three pre season fixtures against level 6 opposition in Upper Eden, Wigton and Consett.

Look out for the first team debuts for Owen Hayton and from the bench Ewan Dryden and Harry Nordenfeldt. Although, all three donned a Vos shirt at Tynedale 7's with distinction. Hayton has been shining at pre season with his ball carrying ability and off load game, giving us much needed competition in the second row. Dryden, a utility back who prefers to play in the centres looked calm and skilful during 7's season. Again, will add competition within our squad pushing the lads on. Nordenfeldt, only 17 but looked like a leader at Percy Park 7's where he was probably our best player on the day. His best position is 7 but he looks like he could easily play on the wing !

In addition, we are delighted to see Jonny McSorley put a shirt on again. McSorley spent almost the entire season amongst the coaching staff. Despite slimming down in an attempt to play 10 for the 3's he will provide some much needed experience back into our front row.

In the 2nd xv game we will see a senior debut for Ted Old who has put in a real shift at pre season. The scrum half will start on the wing due to lack of backs for this fixture but will enjoy his usual 9 role in the second half. In addition, Jake Smith will enter the fray at some stage for his first game for Vos. The big man is keen to get his first taste of rugby after honing his ability at pre season.

Should be a great day in the expected sunshine so get down and get involved - still could do with some backs for the 2nd xv game ! See you at Sutherland Park for a 1500 kick off.

Up the Vos !
