Would you like to help run Novos?

This article explains how the club runs; the Executive Committee; roles on the Executive Committee, and explains how you can get involved.

Novocastrians RFC is a great, inclusive club, with history stretching back to 1899. We are unique certainly in Northumberland and Durham (and perhaps beyond), in that we have 4 men's senior teams, 2 ladies'teams, rugby for boys and girls from 6 to 12, boys' teams from 13 to 18, and girls' teams at U13, 15 and 18.

This of course all takes lots of organising by the club's volunteers, whether it be helping to introduce 6 year olds to the game, or running the club's finances. The club is run by the Executive Committee, all of whom are volunteers, elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) each year.

There is also lots of help given to these committee members by other volunteers on sub-committees, again perhaps through coaching at various age groups, helping look after the pitches or the clubhouse, arranging kit purchases, collecting subs and currently in 2020 Covid times, running the bar, amongst other things. All club members are invited, and are welcome to help out in running the club. Volunteering can be very rewarding personally, including benefiting job prospects; in addition to helping your club; roles taken on can involve very little of your time, or more if you can spare it

At the AGM, with the exception of the President who is nominated for 2 years, each role on the Executive Committee is up for election. Any club member, should they wish to apply for any of the roles, are entitled to do so, subject to being proposed and seconded by 2 other club members. Parents of junior players are not automatically members through their child(ren), but can become a social member of the club should they wish to be involved.

The structure of the Executive Committee can vary with time, but at present has the following officers:

Chair
Secretary
Treasurer
Vice Chair
President
Director of Men's Rugby
Director of Women's Rugby
Director of Youth
Director of Minis
Director of House and Grounds
Commercial Director
Club Volunteer Coordinator
Club County Representative

Currently, the club captain also attends the Executive Committee, and we have just added the Head of Girls' Rugby too.

Should you be interested in being considered for any of the posts (apart from President) at the next AGM, you can get an idea of what the role entails, by looking at sample role descriptions on the RFU website:

https://www.englandrugby.com/participation/volunteers/roles

With us still affected by Covid-19, our AGM date hasn't yet been set but will hopefully be in the next few weeks. It is possible that it will be held virtually, in line with both the RFU and Northumberland Rugby AGMs.

Should you wish to learn more about helping to run the club, please email me, James Forbes (Chair) or Janette Evans (Secretary)

Many thanks
